Colgate and The Oral & Dental Research Trust are pleased to invite applications for the fourth round of Colgate DCP Research Awards for research conducted by Dental Care Professionals (DCP). Four awards, each to a maximum value of £2,500, will be made on the basis of an application for support of investigations of clinical relevance, particularly in the field of preventive care. Whilst the applicant must be a DCP, it is anticipated that a research team will be formed to include a mentor or supervisor with an established research record.
Applications should consist of no more than two A4 pages summarising the background, aims and methodology of the research proposal and the role to be played by the applicant in the study. The way in which the award will support the investigation must be specified.
Colgate offers a cash award of £300 for the best verbal presentation by an undergraduate student. The winner will be entered for the Junior Category of the Hatton Awards competition at the IADR. Additionally Colgate will reward the prize winner's department with £3,000 to support undergraduate research in the coming year. The department will be required to prepare a report for the BSDR that summarises the use of the prize money after 12 months.
Prize entrants will be limited to those candidates who have carried out their research as part of undergraduate/professional training (research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student or at a time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student). Individuals with a formal research degree (Master's and/or PhD) are not eligible for this category.
